James Roberts is a Founder and Managing Principal of Brazos Residential (formed in January 2022) , a vertically integrated real estate private equity firm that owns and operates over 5,000 multifamily units across key Sun Belt markets. Brazos Residential and Brazos Residential Management combined employ over 160 individuals. With nearly 20 years of experience in the multifamily sector, James and his partner (Will Hancock) have built a full-cycle investment platform focused on sourcing, acquiring, and operating value-add & opportunistic real estate.
James began his career in real estate capital markets, working in both debt and equity placement at NorthMarq Capital before transitioning into asset management at PNC Bank/Red Capital. He then spent over a decade in multifamily investment sales as a Senior Vice President at NorthMarq, where he was consistently recognized as one of the firm’s top-producing brokers nationally. During his brokerage career, James was directly involved in over $5 billion of multifamily transactions totaling more than 50,000 units.
At Brazos, James co-leads the firm’s overall investment strategy, and leads the firm’s deal sourcing efforts. Known for his ability to uncover off-market opportunities and execute with precision, he brings institutional experience and entrepreneurial drive to every aspect of the business.
James holds a BBA in Real Estate and Management from Baylor University. He lives in Richardson, Texas, with his wife and their four children.
